The camera itself is about the size of a pen and when placed in the
patient's mouth, a greatly magnified picture of the person's teeth or even
a single tooth is shown on a computer monitor. The patient now sees just
what the dentist sees, only better.
Using this high-tech device, the dentist can perceive tiny cavities and
cracks that might be invisible otherwise. This allows a minor (and
inexpensive) repair of the tooth to be done instead of waiting until the
tooth really starts to cause trouble and needs a more extensive repair or,
worse, becomes unsalvageable.
You get to see what the doctor sees so you are better informed about the
health of your teeth and gums. You also get to make all the
decisions on what treatment, if any, you would want in your mouth.
